McCLOSKEY GRABS WINNER AS BALLYMENA WIN AT FERNEY

Ballymena United came from a goal down to pick up all three points from this visit to Ferney Park.

David Jeffrey's side might have opened the scoring early on when Allan Jenkins beat 'keeper Richard Brush to the ball but his effort was cleared off line by Colm McLaughlin.

The Mallards moved in front soon after in spectacular fashion when Shane McGinty unleashed a stunning effort beyond the despairing Ross Glendinning from at least 25 yards.

Ballymena levelled five minutes later, however, when Johnny McMurray fired low into the bottom corner from around 20 yards after getting on the end of a Willie Faulkner knock-on.

And the visitors might have edged in front soon after when the ball rebounded off Jim Ervin before being cleared off the line.

At the other end McGinty almost doubled his tally for the afternoon only to be denied by Glendinning before the loose ball fell for Jason McCartney but Ervin was on hand to block his shot at the near post.

Ballymena grabbed the lead on the hour when a defensive mix-up between Brush and McLaughlin allowed Conor McCloskey to turn the ball into the unguarded net.

The recently crowned League Cup holders then had a chance to extend their advantage later in the game when Mallards defender David Elliott handled the ball but Cathair Friel saw his subsequent spot-kick well saved by Brush.
