SECOND HALF REDS SEAL SOLITUDE POINTS

Two goals early in the second half saw Cliftonville collect their second league win of the season with victory over Dungannon Swifts at Solitude.

Aaron Donnelly tested Stuart Addis early on with a dangerous cross which the Swifts 'keeper did well to deal with.

Then, on 18 minutes, Rory Donnelly turned a header over from the edge of the area while, just after the half-hour mark, Aaron fired over from the edge of the box as the Reds continued to probe.

As the first half progressed the tempo increased with a Rory Donnelly header being well tipped over by Addis, followed closely by a Joe Gormley strike.

The Swifts had their chances, too, with Ryan Harpur producing a fantastic diving save from Brett Long while Terry Fitzpatrick came closer still with a header moments from the break.

The deadlock was finally broken six minutes into the second half. Garry Breen found a way through after connecting with a corner to send a low diving header beyond Addis.

The visitors almost levelled straightaway only for Cormac Burke to crack an effort against the crossbar.

Cliftonville almost extended their advantage when Gormley was played through by Tomas Cosgrove and whilst he beat the 'keeper he could only direct the ball against an upright.

But Gormley did find the net just after the hour with a superb curling finish into the top corner after receiving the ball from the left.

Rodney McAree's Swifts didn't let their heads drop, however, and duly pulled a goal back with 12 minutes remaining when Chris Hegarty sneaked in at the backpost to head the ball beyond Long into the opposite corner - and they almost levelled a short time after that only to be thwarted by Aaron Donnelly's goalline clearance from Alan Teggart.
