Newry City have announced the signings of Thomas Lockhart and Jimmy Walker as boss Darren Mullen kicks off his preparations for the upcoming campaign.

Lockhart, 26, joins his hometown club from Northern Amateur League side Rathfriland although prior to that he picked up Premiership experience with a stint at Dungannon Swifts before relocating to the United States for a short period.

The striker revealed that Mullen had previously contacted him with a view to signing for City but that circumstances had prevented the move.

"He actually got in touch last year which obviously didn't work out because I was going to the States but I'm just glad now to get it done. Newry was always in my mind because of coming from here so I'm looking forward to getting to know the lads, the backroom staff and Darren and starting training," he told the official club Twitter account.

"Obviously we don't know the date when we'll be back playing but as long as we're training and getting as fit as we possibly can I think we'll be in for a really good season."

Walker, meanwhile, returns to The Showgrounds after a year away with Windmill Stars.

The 29-year-old midfielder had been with Newry since 2013 from their days in the Mid-Ulster Intermediate League right through to promotion into the Premiership.
