Linfield made their European exit following a narrow defeat to Maltese side Floriana at Windsor Park.

The visitors needed just nine minutes to open the scoring when Tiago Adan found Matias Garcia who saw his low shot deflected past Chris Johns into the bottom corner.

Faced with a strong defensive showing, it took Linfield until the early stages of the second half to come close to an equaliser when first Shayne Lavery forced a save from keeper Ini Akpan before Bastien Héry fired just wide moments later.

However, Linfield's task was made more difficult with just over a quarter-of-an-hour to go following Ross Larkin's dismissal for a second caution.

The Blues did press as the game inched to a close, coming closest a minute or so from the end through Christy Manzinga's acrobatic effort from a Lavery delivery which sailed over the target.
