WOMEN'S PREMIERSHIP: WEEK SEVEN PREVIEW

The Danske Bank Women’s Premiership continues on Wednesday night with the seventh round of action.

The scheduled North Belfast derby between Cliftonville Ladies and Crusaders Strikers has been rescheduled for August, meaning that there are only two fixtures this gameweek.

After last season’s shortened campaign due to the pandemic, this season sees a full restoration with each of the sides in the top-flight playing each other four times.

That gives Glentoran Women the chance to close the five-point gap to the Reds at the top, as they play host to Belfast rivals Linfield Ladies.

Elsewhere, Sion Swifts Ladies will look to get their first win over the campaign as they host Derry City Women.

Glentoran Women v Linfield Ladies
Glentoran have won each of their last two league matches and a victory here would close the gap at the top to Cliftonville to just two points.

The Glens were downed 4-2 at Solitude earlier this season and were also held to a 1-1 draw against Linfield Ladies at New Midgely Park, so will be keen to now build a winning run.

The Blues meanwhile have picked up just four points from their last five games and are yet to avoid defeat in their games on the road this season.

The Glens are unbeaten in six in this fixture but this looks set to be a closely-fought encounter.

Sion Swifts Ladies v Derry City Women
This is another derby clash, with both sides drawing the majority of their players from the catchment areas of Derry, Donegal and Strabane.

Derry City recorded a memorable 1-0 win at home to Sion last month, but boss Tony McGinley is back in the Sion dugout for this return game at Melvin.

Sion had won the last six previous matches between the two, scoring 42 unanswered goals in the process, but the improvements of the Candystripes this season means this one is likely to be keenly contested.

Cliftonville Ladies v Crusaders Strikers
Originally scheduled this week, the North Belfast derby between league leaders Cliftonville Ladies and Crusaders Strikers, in third, will now be played on Sunday 15th August at Solitude.
