The Danske Bank Women’s Premiership continues this week as we enter gameweek two of the 2022 campaign.

The league now has eight teams, with Mid Ulster and Lisburn joining Glentoran, Cliftonville, Crusaders, Linfield, Derry City and Sion Swifts in the top-flight.

Each team will play the other seven sides twice, home and away, before the league splits into a top four and bottom four – with each team playing other sides in their half two more times, meaning that each team plays 20 league matches.

There will also be a mid-season break of Premiership fixtures between 1 June and 1 August, to allow for the Northern Ireland side’s participation in the European Championships.

Linfield, Glentoran, Cliftonville and Crusaders all recorded victories to nil during the opening round of matches.

This week’s games sees Glentoran travel to Mid Ulster on Monday night ahead of three games on Wednesday.

Mid Ulster Ladies v Glentoran Women, Mid Ulster Sports Arena, Monday 7.45pm
Both these sides had contrasting fortunes on the opening day – champions Glentoran defeat Lisburn 4-0 as Mid Ulster lost by six goals at Linfield.

Mid Ulster, like Lisburn, are newly promoted this season and have never played the Glens in the top flight – and will be massive underdogs for this game.

The Glens will be looking to secure their third successive league title this campaign while Mid Ulster will be hopeful of getting their first points on the board in this clash.

Cliftonville Ladies v Derry City Women, Solitude 7.45pm
The Candystripes are still on the lookout for a new permanent manager after Kevin McLaughlin parted ways with the club on the verge of the new campaign.

Josh Boyle remains in the dugout as the club look to appoint a permanent successor with a second successive trip to North Belfast – having lost 3-0 at Crusaders on the opening matchday.

The two sides have played each other 18 times since 2012, with the Reds winning all of those matches by an aggregate scoreline of 85-6 – including all four meetings last season.

Crusaders Strikers v Linfield Ladies, Seaview 8pm
Arguably the tie of the matchday sees an all-Belfast clash between Crusaders and Linfield at Seaview – with both sides aiming for top three places this campaign.

The Crues won three of the four meetings last season although Linfield did win the final day fixture 2-1 at New Midgely Park while the Blues also won the eight previous meetings between the two.

Crusaders beat Derry 3-0 on the opening day as Linfield recorded a six-goal win over Mid Ulster with this tie likely to be in the balance.

Lisburn Ladies v Sion Swifts Ladies, Bluebell Stadium 8pm
Both these sides suffered four-goal opening day defeats to Glentoran and Cliftonville respectively but both will have taken elements of encouragement from their performances.

Each team will be eyeing this game as a strong opportunity to get early points on the board and as Lisburn have just been promoted, this has never previously been a top-flight fixture.
