The first month of what is developing into a closely fought Playr-Fit Championship campaign wrapped up with weekend victories for Annagh United, Dundela, Institute, Newington and Bangor.

Annagh United remain top of the table – and the only unbeaten side in the league – after a narrow victory over Dergview at Darragh Park.

Ruairi McDonald grabbed the only goal of the game for Ciaran McGurgan’s side after half-an-hour with a curling effort from the edge of the area that crept past Adam Groogan in off the far post.

Newington lead the chasing pack on goal difference after a two-goal defeat of bottom of the table Knockbreda at Inver Park.

Scoreless at the break, Darren Stuart edged the Swans in front just after the hour before Zach Barr made sure in stoppage time.

Dundela laid down a marker with a 2-1 home win over fellow challengers Ballinamallard United.

The damage was done midway through the first half after Lee Rea found the net with a strike from the edge of the box before, five minutes later, Ryan Morris inadvertently turned the ball into his own net whilst trying to deal with a Tony Kane free-kick.

The Mallards pulled one back through a thumping James McGrath with just over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining but the visitors couldn’t spring a late comeback.

Institute needed just one goal to get the better of Ballyclare Comrades at the Brandywell. Shaun Leppard grabbed what proved to be the winner on the hour with a header from Fionn McClure’s delivery.

On Friday night Bangor edged to a narrow victory over Portadown at Shamrock Park courtesy of Scott McArthur’s 12th minute strike into the bottom corner.

Meanwhile, at Clandeboye Park, Ards picked up their second point of the season thanks to Callum Dougan’s 89th minute equaliser cancelling out Michael McLellan’s early opener for HW Welders.
