CELTIC KICK OFF WITH WIN OVER NEWLY PROMOTED NEWRY

Lurgan Celtic marked the start of their league season with a 2-1 home win over newly promoted Newry City.

The visitors drew first blood with virtually the last kick of the half when Mark Hughes broke into the box and with the home defence not dealing with the threat he drilled a rising shot past 'keeper Liam McAuley.

With only a few minutes gone in the second half Celtic drew level when Warner Mullen, making his competitive debut for the club, placed a shot beyond the reaches of Kieran Gordon.

Celtic secured the points with just over 20 minutes left when Aaron Haire planted a header past Gordon after connecting with a corner.
