PORTS CRUISE TO COMPREHENSIVE SHOWGROUNDS VICTORY

Chris Lavery twice found the net as Portadown defeated Newry City in this Friday night clash at The Showgrounds.

Lavery opened the scoring as early as the third minute when his tame shot wasn't gathered by home 'keeper Kieran Gordon, allowing theball to slip through his hands to trickle over the line.

City levelled on 25 minutes, after having earlier hit the woodwork, when John Boyle rose highest to powerfully nod home Mark Hughes' cross to the back post.

Portadown restored their lead ten minutes into the second half with Lavery again finding the net with a free-kick from the edge of the area.

Then, three minutes after that, Peter Duffin made it 3-1 after evading a number of challenges to slip a low effort past Gordon.

Number four arrived with just under a quarter-of-an-hour remaining when Kevin Amuneke fired through a crowded penalty area after an initial Adam Salley effort had been blocked.
