PORTS KICK OFF PROMOTION CHALLENGE IN STYLE

Portadown kicked off their attempt to bounce back to the top flight at the first time of asking with this three-goal defeat of Larne.

Niall Currie's side moved in front after 27 minutes thanks to a deflected effort from skipper Niall Henderson.

Substitute Matthew Hazley made it 2-0 not long after the hour with a close range finish after Adam McCallum’s header had bounced off the post.

And Kyle McVey wrapped up the scoring by reacting quickest after his initial header bounced off the bar with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining before slotting home the loose ball.
