WELDERS WIN IN DIFFICULT CONDITIONS AT BREDA PARK

Two first half goals helped HW Welders to victory over Knockbreda in wet and windy conditions at Breda Park.

'Breda created the first effort of note with a well worked free kick but David McMaster fired wide.

After that the visitors gained control and on six minutes were awarded a penalty when the referee deemed a foul had occurred in the box. The spot kick was crashed against the bar by Michael McLellan and cleared.

From another McLellan effort on 18 minutes the visitors got a corner and, unchallenged from 6 yards, Spence bundled the ball into the net for the opening goal.

'Breda somehow held out until the dying seconds of the first half when a bad mistake inside their own box gifted the ball to Danny McKee who crossed for Christopher Middleton to head in the killer second goal at the far post.

This was a real blow to 'Breda who pressed hard in the second half but could not score. However, the Welders also struck the woodwork on several occasions in what was a free flowing entertaining encounter.
