WILSON EARNS POINT FOR CRUES

Linfield almost took the lead direct from a Sarah Venney corner in the opening minute but the ball rolled inches beyond the far post.

The visitors came close after six minutes but Linfield 'keeper Lauren Perry pulled off a fine stop to deny a Crues player who was bearing down on goal.

The game settled down into a tough battle, with chances few and far between for either team.

However, Linfield broke the deadlock in the 41st minute when a Venney left wing corner fell invitingly for Lyndsay Corry to hook the ball into the net from close range.

Soon after the break Kelsie Burrows came close to doubling Linfield's lead but she lifted her effort over the bar when the ball broke her way following a right wing corner.

On 52 minutes Kirsty McGuinness turned in the box but her strike also cleared the crossbar.

In the 63rd minute a delightful chip from Leontia McVarnock from the edge of the box came crashing back off the bar, before being cleared by a grateful visiting defence.

At this stage it was all Linfield pressure and a thunderous strike from Venney from 30 yards came crashing back from the cross bar and was cleared, as Linfield went in search of the comfort of a second goal.

On 66 minutes Amber Dempster replaced McVarnock and two minutes later she had the ball in the net, firing home from a low left wing McGuinness cross only for the 'goal' to be ruled out offside.

Linfield's inability to kill the game off with a decisive second goal was to prove costly when the plucky, hard working visitors snatched an equalising goal in the 72nd minute.

Emily Wilson pounced sharply on a back pass to round Perry to stroke the ball into the empty net for the equaliser.

Jennifer McDade came close to a Linfield winner on 84 minutes but her header from a corner was wide of the post.
