The Academy Scholarship Programme class of 2018/2019.

The successful Academy Scholarship Programme continues to play a key role in the NI Football League’s commitment to the development of youth football in Northern Ireland.

Earlier this season the announcement of the exciting new programme followed the formation of the new Academy League structures at Under-16 and Under-18 level for clubs, with player education for talented young players a vital component of the league strategy.

To create a better environment for player development, the NI Football League launched the exciting partnership with the Football Management Company earlier this season to provide a two-year Academy Player Scholarship programme.

The programme includes a BTEC Level 3 in Sports Studies, additional training and playing time plus coaching opportunities to assist students with future career opportunities.

NI Football League Development Manager, Steven Mills said, “We believe the Academy Player Scholarship offers much needed support to our most talented young players.

“The programme continues to grow from strength to strength and is providing exciting young players both an education and a footballing opportunity to develop within Northern Ireland.”

In the inaugural year of the course the ability and commitment of students on the programme has already been recognised at international level with students Trai Hume (Linfield) and Callum Ferris (Portadown) being called into the most recent Northern Ireland Schoolboys squads.
