ARDS took another step towards the Premiership by beating relegation threatened Larne 2-1 at Inver Park.

Niall Currie's men now know that if they can beat Dundela tomorrow evening at Wilgar Park they will be confirmed as Belfast Telegraph Championship One winners.

Ards dominated the first half, with Neil Dougan, Paul McDowell, Craig McMillen and Stephen Cockcroft all going close. But thanks largely to the heroics of the superb Chris Keenan in the Larne goal Ards fans had to wait until the 47th minute for the first goal.

Ross Arthurs finished off some fine build up play with a 20 yard strike that seemed to take a heavy deflection. Paul McDowell doubled Ards' advantage ten minutes later when he knocked home a fine McMillen cross from the right flank.

Larne pulled a goal back in the 68th minute when Sencer Yilmaz out jumped McKibbin to present forward Lee Thompson with a chance inside the six yard box that he simply couldn't miss.

Larne pushed for an equaliser but a nervy Ards defence held on to claim an invaluable three points, that puts them with in touching distance of the Championship trophy.
