Ballinamallard United scorer Chris Curran (Picture: Jonathan Porter/

BOTH sides had to settle for a share of the points after this thrilling derby encounter at Ferney Park.

The league leaders opened the scoring with nine minutes on the clock when Chris Curran raced through on goal and fired past Stefan McCusker.

Mark Stafford was inches away from doubling the lead on 23 minutes but he then nearly put one in his own net, only for the quick reactions of James McGrath.

Ballinamallard's David Kee was shown a straight red card on 36 minutes for a handball on the goal line after the Mallards made a mess of clearing the ball and Ryan Campbell continued his excellent form by converting from the spot.

The end to end action continued in the second half but it was the Fermanagh side who should have sneaked it right at the death when Mark McConkey headed a glorious opportunity into the side netting.
