BLUEFIN SPORT CHAMPIONSHIP: MATCHDAY 11 PREVIEW

The Bluefin Sport Championship scheduled may have been reduced by the UEFA Regions Cup but there’s still three hugely important games including second against third!

Dergview v Loughgall (venue: Darragh Park; kick-off: 3pm)

These two sides meet on Saturday level on points at the wrong end of the table, only one point away from the relegation playoff places. It was a sixth league defeat in succession for Peter Allen’s Dergview last week against Larne, as they will be looking to get their campaign back on track at home against Loughgall.

Loughgall has pulled together some form in recent weeks which could give them a chance to move as high as eighth with a win on the road this weekend. They drew with basement side Ballinamallard United last week, but the Villagers are unbeaten in their last three league games under Dean Smith going into this game.

Larne v Carrick Rangers (venue: Inver Park; kick-off: 3pm)

It’s back to league action for Larne who enjoyed a memorable night in midweek against Rangers who officially opened the new Inver Park pitch. The focus now for Tiernan Lynch and his formidable outfit is the quest for promotion and the visit of East Antrim neighbours, Carrick Rangers on Saturday.

Carrick will be hoping to topple the league leaders and become the first team this season to take all three points from the Invermen. Niall Currie’s side have enjoyed a week’s break from the intensity of the season last Saturday but are unbeaten in their last three Championship outings and ran Premiership side Cliftonville close in their last competitive outing in the League Cup.

Portadown v Dundela (venue: Shamrock Park; kick-off: 3pm)

It’s second v third at Shamrock Park as the Ports return to action after last week’s postponement following goalkeeper Declan Dunne’s international call-up. The gap at the top of the table for Matthew Tipton’s third placed side has now stretched to seven points behind Larne, albeit with Portadown having a game in hand.

Dundela striker Jordan Hughes continued his stunning start to the season with his 14th goal of the league campaign completing his hat-trick and a superb comeback in the 3-3 draw with Ballyclare Comrades last weekend. Dundela continue to enjoy a fine first phase of the season and will be intent on keeping pace with leaders Larne in another stern test of their title credentials against the Ports.
