Champions Institute proved too strong for a youthful Portadown at Wilton Park.

The Ports created the first clear cut chance of the game after 12 minutes when Craig McMillen found Adam McCallum but his strong header was directed straight at 'keeper Martin Gallagher.

However, the deadlock was broken just before the half-hour mark when 'Stute skipper Michael McCrudden turned the ball past 16-year-old Portadown 'keeper Ruadhan McKenna with a well placed shot from inside the area.

Adam Salley might have levelled for the visitors just before the break after picking up a loose ball inside the box before beating a defender but Gallagher did well to make the save.

Then, on the hour, substitute Jackson Holmes got past a couple of players to test the home 'keeper with an angled drive which just went the wrong side of the post.

The game ended with two goals in the closing moments. Sean McCarron doubled Institute's lead on 86 minutes after a good build up before 17-year-old Ryan Latifi pulled one back for Portadown from the rebound after his initial effort was blocked.
