CHAMPIONSHIP 1 ROUND-UP

AS ARDS were establishing an eight point lead at the top of the table with a 3-2 win over a battling Loughgall side the weather was playing havoc and had already put paid to the Carrick/Bangor game at Taylors Avenue.

A late pitch inspection proved the saturated ground to be unplayable and over the hill in Larne at Inver Park the referee decided that the pitch there too had also become unplayable after twenty two minutes of play.

For the record, Institute lead Larne by one goal to nil at the time of abandonment.

Elsewhere Limavady United suffered a home defeat at the hands of Dergview. Sproule gave the visitors the lead in the first half and a Dougherty penalty in the second secured the points.

In the only other game played 4th and 5th placed Warrenpoint Town and HW Welders played out a scoreless draw.
