Newry City maintained their rich vein of form with an important defeat of PSNI at Newforge.

The visitors moved in front after a quarter-of-an-hour when Scott McCrory conceded a penalty for a challenge on Mark McCabe with James Walker stepping up to convert confidently past Jordan Williamson.

And Neil Mullen's side were awarded a second spot-kick after 20 minutes when Ashton McDermott was adjudged to have used his arms to block a Keith Johnston cross into the area but, on this occasion, Williamson dived to his left to deny Walker.

However, Walker did contribute to Newry's second goal on 48 minutes when his corner from the left was glanced into the net at the near post off the head of Thomas McCann.

It got worse for the PSNI soon after when James Montgomery was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Declan Carville.

The ten men fell further behind on 63 minutes when McCabe completed the scoring with a lob over Williamson from just inside the area.
