Dergview closed the league campaign with a defeat of PSNI at Darragh Park but it wasn't enough to lift Peter Allen's side out of the relegation play-off spot.
They now face the Premier Intermediate League runners-up home and away to confirm their Championship place next season, with the alternative being a drop into the third tier of local football.
With more to play for it was Dergview who bossed the first half on Saturday and indeed Allen's charges should have taken the lead just eight minutes in.
PSNI defender Chandler Douglas was adjudged to have used excessive force in bundling over Ryan Campbell who then had his spot-kick well saved by visiting 'keeper Jordan Williamson.
Dergview continued to probe for the decisive opening goal and after home skipper Tommy Wray steered wide from six yards, they nudged ahead nine minutes before the break.
Aaron Arkinson won a free kick on the left, Campbell teed up Adam Buchanan and the midfielder fired a thunderbolt inside Williamson left upright from all of 25 yards.
Buoyed by that opener, the Castlederg outfit went in search of a second.
Falconer steered wide of Williamson's left post after clever play by Arkinson before Adam Dougherty doubled the advantage on the stroke of half-time. Following a sweeping attack on the left involving Arkinson, Campbell and Garth Falconer, Dougherty picked his spot low inside Williamson's right post from around the penalty spot.
The half-time interval came too soon for the hosts and while Dergview continued to call the tune, their opponents carried a more significant threat on the resumption of the second half.
And just shy of the hour mark the visitors hit back. The home defence failed to clear their lines, Mark Anderson swooped on the loose ball and coolly curled it high inside Alan Buchanan's right post.
The PSNI almost grabbed a second shortly afterwards. The home side's rearguard was overstretched on the left, Lukasz Adamcyzk dashed into the box and crashed a shot off Buchanan's crossbar.
For the remainder of the contest the action was end to end.
Dergview substitute Alex Pomeroy was thwarted by Williamson from the edge of the area before the PSNI keeper dived full stretch to push a fizzing a shot from Dylan McCorkell around the base of his left upright. At the other end Ashton McDermott went even closer to grabbing an equaliser when from 20 yards he cannoned a shot off Buchanan's right post.
