Portadown were in ruthless form against the Bluefin Sport Championship’s bottom side Ballinamallard, as Kevin Braniff struck a hat-trick in their five goal win.
It took only 14 minutes for Braniff to open the scoring at Shamrock Park, as he converted Ryan Carmichael’s cross with the aid of a deflection past Mallards goalkeeper Harney.
12 minutes later, both Portadown and Braniff doubled their tally for the afternoon – heading home from close range after good work from Chris Lavery down the flanks.
Teenage winger Ryan Carmichael got in on the act on 34 minutes as he weaved his way through the Ballinamallard United defence to slot home the Ports’ third goal.
Matthew Tipton’s side were now in their stride as they clocked a fourth goal just before the break – as Braniff turned provider for Carmichael to grab his second of the game with a header.
The second period failed to produce as much action, as the only goal of the half was scored by Kevin Braniff who secured the match-ball as he finished Conal Morrison’s cross from close range to wrap the game up nicely for Portadown.
