LATE WINNER GIVES PSNI EDGE AFTER NEWFORGE THRILLER

The PSNI had moved in front within 60 seconds of kick-off when Lukasz Adamczyk pounced on a backpass that had fallen short of 'keeper Alan Buchanan to display a true poachers instinct to knock the opener home.

That was how it stayed for the remainder of the first half but the second period was also graced by a goal in the opening minute when Adam Dougherty punished the home defence with a strong equaliser.

On 53 minutes Philip Simpson was deemed to have fouled a Dergview player inside the box. Ryan Campbell converted the resultant penalty to edged the visitors in front.

At the other end, just before the hour, the PSNI were awarded a penalty of their own. Unfortunately Adamczyk’s effort came off the right post and Dergview defence were able to scramble the ball to safety.

Then, with ten minutes left, a Dale Malone free-kick some 22 yards from goal came back off an upright but Owen Moody was on hand to react quickest to level for the home side.

The winner came in stoppage time when Ashton McDermott made the most of a bout of miscommunication in the Dergview defence to round Buchanan and fire home into the unguarded net.
