A spectacular Darren Murray finish two minutes from time earned Portadown the points from Dergview's visit to Shamrock Park.
Murray himself opened the scoring after seven minutes when he ran onto an Adam Salley ball over the top down the right side of the area to wrestle past Matthew Buchanan and Lee McNulty before slotting beyond Alan Buchanan into the far corner.
The Ports might have extended their advantage after that when Jamie Douglas sent te ball just wide from distance followed by a Greg Hall ball across the goalline which narrowly failed to go in.
Dergview levelled midway through the first half after Matthew Kirk's ball from the left side of the area went into his own net off the back of defender Johnny Flynn.
The visitors were then presented with a great chance to take the lead when Adam Dougherty was brought down by Adam McCallum inside the area but, from the spot-kick that followed, Kirk was denied by Declan Dunne.
Portadown almost edged in front midway through the second half after a McCallum header from Kevin Braniff's corner hit the crossbar while, at the other end, Dunne did well to turn an Adam Dougherty shot over.
The woodwork thwarted the Ports again when a smashing Braniff effort came back off the bar, bounced on the line and was cleared.
However, Portadown did get the goal their efforts deserved just two minutes from time when Murray when controlled a McCallum punt forward with his head before beating Alan Buchanan with a superb overhead kick from around 12 yards into the top left corner.
