NEWRY STAGE LATE RECOVERY AT THE SHOWGROUNDS

Two last gasp goals helped Newry City defeat Ballyclare Comrades at The Showgrounds.

The visitors moved in front after 11 minutes through Chris Rodgers who nodded home after Newry keeper Steven Maguire failed to collect a Christopher Middleton delivery.

It was a lead Ballyclare held until the closing moments when Newry hit them with two late goals in quick succession.

On 89 minutes Keith Johnston made space down the left before squaring the ball to Jimmy Walker just inside the box. When Comrades keeper Paddy Flood couldn't hold the midfielder's fierce shot substitute Neil Mullen was on hand to steer the rebound home from six yards.

There was even better to come for Newry two minutes later as Mullen got a touch on a high ball outside the area before lifting it towards goal and over the head of the Ballyclare defence who could only watch on as Johnston poked it underneath Flood for what proved to be the winner.
