NEWRY TO THE FOUR AT SHAMROCK PARK

Chris Lavery opened the scoring for Portadown just before the half-hour mark when, from a Fra Brennan free-kick into the area, he proved alert to the opportunity to fire past 'keeper Stephen Maguire.

However, the visitors levelled ten minutes later when James Walker's shot bounced around the penalty area before being turned into his own net by Kyle Neill as he attempted to clear.

Then, a couple of minutes from the break, Walker did find the net when Keith Johnston and Mark McCabe combined to release him to fire past John Connolly.

Newry extended their advantage six minutes into the second half after the home defence failed to clear a corner allowing Declan Carville to head home.

And number four came right at the end after McCabe turned Martin Havern's pass beyond the Ports 'keeper.
