Newry City stretched their unbeaten run to eight games with victory over league leaders Ballyclare Comrades.

Jimmy Walker opened the scoring on 34 minutes with a superbly executed volley from the edge of the area.

Mark McCabe made it 2-0 on 69 minutes after connecting with Stephen Hughes' cross from the right to direct a diving header past Paddy Flood.

Newry soon wrapped the points up, Mark Hughes swinging a low corner to the front post where it was helped on by Marty Havern falling perfectly for Darren King who slammed the ball past Flood to make it 3-0.

And Newry's pressing play paid off with goal number four after 80 minutes, Havern hassling a mistake out of the Comrades defence before making the most of the opportunity with a clinical finish from the edge of the box to put Newry out of sight although the visitors did claim a late consolation goal when Newry defender John Boyle turned an Adam Gray cross into his own net.
