The Roesiders had a great chance to take an early lead after only three minutes, as Johnny Hume stole the ball from a defender, and took the ball around 'keeper Chris McCaughey but his effort crashed off the top of the post.

The Ports had the ball in the net on 22 minutes when Lavery curled a volley goalwards that Paul Wells could only parry to the feet of Gary Warwick who fired in from an offside position.

And they were disappointed again on 33 minutes when Greg Hall found the net with a thunderbolt from outside the box but a team-mate had strayed offside.

Then, just before the break, Adam Salley might have scored following a goalmouth scramble only for Wells to make a brave block from close range.

However, it fell to United to break the deadlock nine minutes into the second half when Andrew Devlin stabbed the ball home after Paul Owens had delivered a cross into the box.

Portadown might have equalised within two minutes but McVey failed to find the target despite being unmarked at the back post.

Limavady looked to extend their lead with Ryan Logue and John Watt having efforts drift off target.

But the Ports grabbed a 94th minute equaliser to secure a share of the spoils when Peter Duffin blasted a piledriver past Wells from outside the box after a free-kick was only partially cleared.
