Despite hitting three goals without reply past Knockbreda at The Showgrounds, Limavady United couldn't avoid relegation from the Bluefin Sport Championship.

The three points weren't enough to earn a potential reprieve via the play-offs following the PSNI's victory over Ballyclare Comrades, a result which means the Police will face P.I.L. runners-up Annagh United for a place in the Championship next season.

Scoreless at the break, Hugh Carlin broke the deadlock for the Roesiders six minutes into the second half when he connected to Emmet Friars' knockdown from a free-kick to nod the ball past Piaras Toolan.

Alex Pomeroy added a second just after the hour when he beat the offside trap, took a couple of touches and dinked the ball past the 'Breda keeper.

However, as news filtered through of the PSNI gaining the upper hand in their game, it became obvious that United's grip on survival was weakening.

A third goal came on 89 minutes through substitute Stephen Duffy, tapping in after Toolan struggled to cope with a hanging cross into the box, but this was greeted with almost complete indifference on and off the pitch.
