SECOND HALF DOUBLE SECURES POINTS FOR CARRICK

Two second half goals helped Carrick Rangers defeat Irish Cup finalists Ballinamallard United at the Loughshore Hotel Arena.

Ryan Campbell created the first effort of note with just over a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock when he fired over after turning on the edge of the area while moment later at the other end Stewart Nixon sent a low shot just wide.

Campbell came closer midway through the first half with a chipped effort just the wrong side of the target before a Sean McEvoy curler whistled past the post later on.

The Mallards eventually edged in front a couple of minutes from the break when Campbell got past the home defence to direct a finish past keeper Liam McAuley.

Their joy was short-lived, however, following Josh McIlwaine's dismissal moments later following an off the ball incident.

Campbell had a chance to double Ballinamallard's lead just after the hour only to fire over one-on-one with John Connolly.

But the game turned with two goals in quick succession. First, a mistake from Connolly allowed Nixon to tap home the equaliser before, on 77 minutes, Caolin Coyle turned to fire into the top corner to earn the points for Niall Currie's side.
