Richard Clarke (86)

Michael Smith (18)
Michael Smith (44)

Two Michael Smith goals guided Carrick Rangers to victory Ballinamallard United at Ferney Park.

The visitors opened the scoring after 18 minutes. Ashton McDermott chipped a neat pass through to Martin Murray whose volley was saved by goalkeeper John Connolly, but Smith was alert to the rebound.

Smith was unlucky not to score again soon after when he rounded Connolly, but defender Ryan O'Reilly was quick enough to cover and clear the ball from the goal line.

On the stroke of half time, the Mallards were hit with a sucker punch second goal. After having Ross Taheny penalty claims waved away, Smith netted a break away goal for Rangers to double their advantage.

Harry McConkey's side did get a late consolation when, on 85 minutes, Richard Clarke tucked away a penalty after O'Reilly was fouled, and despite some last pressure, Carrick held out for the win.
