Institute stretched their lead at the top of the Bluefin Sport Championship as new Portadown boss Matthew Tipton kicked off his reign at Shamrock Park.

'Stute moved in front after 18 minutes when Michael McCrudden collected a cross before turning his way past a couple of defenders to send an angled finish beyond 'keeper Chris McGaughey.

The visitors continued their bright start with a couple of efforts from Jake Morrow but neither was strong enough to bother McGaughey, while a later Eamon Seydak set piece suffered a similar fate.

Portadown might have levelled through Chris Lavery but his shot through a crowded area from a Kyle Neill corner was blocked on the line.

Tipton's men came into the game more after the break, but couldn't deal with a well marshalled visiting defence.

However, they did find a way through on 74 minutes. Adam Salley delivered a well executed pass into the box for Chris Lavery to tuck the finish beyond Martin Gallagher.
