Manager Matthew Tipton has made the switch from Warrenpoint Town to his former club Portadown.

Tipton boss left his post as Warrenpoint manager on Tuesday evening by mutual consent, immediately following his side’s 5-0 defeat to Glentoran.

This move paved the way for Tipton to return to his former club, Portadown, on Wednesday evening as the Welshman was appointed to the vacant manager’s position at the Bluefin Sport Championship club until the end of the 2019/2020 season.

The 37-year-old had managed Warrenpoint back to the Danske Bank Premiership after lifting the Championship title last season in his first season in management. He returns to the Ports having been a player at Shamrock Park for 18 months between before leaving for Linfield in 2012. The striker also represented Dundalk, Linfield and Ballymena United.

David Miskelly has been appointed as assistant manager with Chris Wright and Trevor Williamson also making up Tipton’s first team coaching panel.

Portadown are currently sitting in fifth place in the table, fifteen points off leaders Institute.

Next up for Portadown is a home game in the Bluefin Sport Championship against second placed Newry City on Friday 2 March (kick-off: 7.45pm)
