Dwaine Beattie claimed the match ball with a hat-trick as Bangor defeated Newry City at The Showgrounds.

Marty Havern fired Newry into the lead after a quarter-of-an-hour when he was quickest to react to the loose ball after a Sean McMullan header was pushed out by 'keeper Darren Gibbons.

But Bangor levelled soon after when Beattie opened his account at the back post following a sweeping move.

Jordan Lucas might have added a second for the visitors after the break only to see Neil Mullen clear his goalbound effort off the line.

However, Lucas turned provided just before the hour with a dangerous ball across the face of goal for Beattie to nip in to fire the Seasiders in front.

Newry tried to fight back with Declan Carville and Dale Patton both coming close before Thomas McCann saw a shot, which looked destined for the bottom corner, tipped onto the post by Gibbons.

Beattie grabbed his third of the afternoon deep into stoppage time from the spot after Newry 'keeper Peter Murphy brought down Gerard McMullan as he attempted to go round him inside the area.
