Mark McCabe (27)
Mark McCabe (66)

Two Mark McCabe goals saw Newry City claim all three points from Queen's University's visit to The Showgrounds, a second successive victory over the students.

Jimmy Walker began the move by playing the ball wide to Keith Johnston who, in turn, wasted no time before curling a low cross into the box for McCabe to slide onto diverting the ball expertly into the roof of the Queen's net.

The visitors might have levelled just before the break when Matt Hughes tested Peter Murphy before Nathan Jones could only send the rebound wide of the target.

Johnston almost doubled Newry's lead during the opening moments of the second half but visiting 'keeper Conor Lally did well to rush off his line to close the threat down.

Newry came even closer on 55 minutes, Kevin McArdle getting forward to place a cross to the near post which Mark Hughes won but, unfortunately, his downward header hit the base of the post.

However, that second goal did come on 66 minutes. Hughes laid the ball off into the path of Stephen McCabe, who then delivered an inch perfect cross for Mark to meet at the near post, rising highest to nod home.
