DEFENCES ON TOP AT MULLAGHACALL

Portstewart and Banbridge Town had to settle for a point apiece from this scoreless draw at Mullaghacall.

Defences were on top throughout and, indeed, the first half produced little by way of goalscoring opportunities with only a Ryan Doherty shot going wide and a Ryan Moffatt effort being saved by Joel Madison coming close to breaking the deadlock.

The second half offered slight improvement. Michael Allison came close for Banbridge when he cut in and fired just wide with a left foot effort.

This was mirrored by Portstewart's Doherty who did much the same after a mazy dribble.

Whilst it could be argued that Madison was the busier of the two keepers, efforts on target remained at a premium.

Both sides introduced substitutes in an effort to break the deadlock, but both defences were determined not to give any quarter and it became clear that with five minutes left both sides were happy with a point.
