Newington swept to a four-goal defeat of Moyola Park in this season opener at Solitude.

Padraig Scollay opened the scoring with just over a quarter-of-an-hour gone after he collected a Chris McFall cross from the right to beat keeper Marcin Farniok.

That was how it stayed until eight minutes into the second half when Farniok pushed out a Conal Burns effort only as far as Kevin Hughes who prompting returned it into the net at the back post.

And Hughes doubled his tally on 84 minutes when tucked the ball under the advancing keeper before, in stoppage time, Robbie McVarnock completed the scoring with a chip from the edge of the area following a great run by Gavin Taggart.
