ANNAGH KEEP UP PROMOTION CHARGE WITH NEWRY WIN
Two first half goals for Annagh United moved them up into second place in the Playr-Fit Championship on Friday night with victory over Newry City.
It took only three minutes for the visitors to open the evening's proceedings with Ryan Swan fired home from six yards after good work by Craig Taylor, who drilled across goal to create the chance.
Annagh United were in the ascendancy for much of the first half and doubled their lead on 42 minutes, as substitute Stephen Murray had only been on the pitch a matter of moments as he pounced on a close range opportunity after Mitchell had palmed out Taylor's initial shot.
Newry fought back early in the second half to try and get back into the match, but Annagh proved resilient at the back and held out for a vital three points on the road.
Ciaran McGurgan's men move into the promotion play-off slot ahead of the Saturday fixtures, whilst Newry remain in the relegation zone and are currently three points from safety.
