ALLEN STRIKE SEES BANNSIDERS CLOSE IN ON THIRD

COLERAINE moved to within one point of third spot with this defeat of Crusaders at The Showgrounds.

The Bannsiders twice came close to opening the scoring early in the game.

Skipper David Ogilby had the first effort when he directed a header onto the bar from a Ruairi Harkin cross.

Then Stephen Lowry saw a shot turned wide by 'keeper Sean O'Neill who one-on-one with the Crues custodian.

The Crues had their best chance of the first half through David Rainey who saw his glancing header deflected wide.

After the break Lowry had another opportunity only to fire over from 25 yards while Paul Owens was unable to keep a snapshot down.

But the Bannsiders did seize the advantage on 77 minutes after Curtis Allen touched home an Ogilby downward header.

Crusaders might have levelled moments later only for Timmy Adamson to screw a golden opportunity wide.
