Colin Nixon has signed a new three year extension at Ards to keep him with the County Down club until 2021.

The deal comes as a blow to Glentoran, the club were Nixon made his name as a player and where he still remains as the East Belfast club’s record appearance holder. The Glens had hoped to fill their vacant manager’s position with their former stalwart having asked for permission to speak to him last week.

Colin Nixon told the official Ards website, "I have enjoyed my time at Ards, so naturally I'm delighted to extend my stay with the club. We have a blueprint in place here at Ards and I'm pleased that I now have the opportunity to continue that work. I would like to thank the Chairman and the board of directors for their commitment to the club."

Nixon has been in charge of the club in December 2016 following the departure of Niall Currie.

Ards are currently ninth in the Danske Bank Premiership and take on Carrick Rangers tomorrow (Saturday) at the Belfast Loughshore Hotel Arena (kick-off 3pm).
