Coleraine continued to lead the way at the top of the Danske Bank Premiership with this victory over Ards, their sixth successive win to maintain their perfect start to the season.

Oran Kearney's side might feel that they should taken advantage of their possession during the opening exchanges with Stephen O'Donnell twice being presented with free headers at the back post from Darren McCauley corners but he just couldn't make them count.

Indeed, the Bannsiders were frustrated throughout the scoreless first half with both Josh Carson and Brad Lyons seeing goalbound efforts blocked from corners.

Jonny Frazer perhaps came closest for Ards after making his way through the Coleraine defence only to see 'keeper Chris Johns gather the ball at his feet.

The Bannsiders eventually broke the deadlock with two quick-fire goals just before the hour.

First, on 56 minutes, Jamie McGonigle produced an excellent stop from Aaron Hogg but, from the loose ball, Carson was on hand to tuck a shot home.

Then, moments after that, McCauley doubled Coleraine's lead with a clinical finish after a poor clearance from an Eoin Bradley cross.

And McCauley put the game to bed with just over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining with a calmly converted spot-kick after McGonigle had been upended inside the area.
