Dermot McVeigh beats Ciaran Clarke to a header (Picture:

COLERAINE defeated Cliftonville at Solitude for the second time in a week at second to go fourth in the table.

Ciaran Caldwell broke the deadlock for Cliftonville on 28 minutes when he sent Michael Doherty the wrong way from the spot after David Ogilby had conceded the penalty - and picked up a booking - for a foul on Stephen Garrett.

But the Bannsiders levelled a minute before half-time with the second penalty of the game.

On this occasion Dermot McVeigh was the guilty party for a foul on Ciaran Clarke on the edge of the area which Jonny Black clinically dispatched into the top left hand corner beyond the reach of John Connolly.

Indeed, Coleraine might have gone in at the break on top after Curtis Allen lifted the ball over the 'keeper but, unfortunately for him, only onto the bar.

Allen went one better, however, on 63 minutes with a right-footed effort into the bottom left corner after Caldwell was caught out by the bounce of the ball.
