BANNSIDERS MUCH TOO STRONG FOR SORRY SKY BLUES

COLERAINE contined their dominance over Ballymena United with a thumping 4-1 victory at The Showgrounds.

The Sky Blues got off to a promising start and might have opened the scoring after just six minutes when Jamie Davidson beat the offside trap before hitting the crossbar.

The Bannsiders struck the woodwork themselves three minutes later through an Aaron Canning cross from the right.

And the crossbar got rattled again on 31 minutes after Howard Beverland met a Stephen Lowry free-kick at the back post only to head against the fittings.

But Coleraine's opener did arrive five minutes from the break courtesy of a Darren Boyce tap-in after David Scullion had created the opening.

It was 2-0 on 55 minutes follwing a Boyce knock on for Michael Hegarty to place the ball beyond Dwayne Nelson.

Coleraine stormed further ahead eight minutes later through Scullion who picked his spot to curl a shot home after Curtis Allen had laid the ball off.

Then, with nine minutes remaining, Allen failed to add a fourth from the spot after substitute Mark Gillan had been upended in the area. Nelson did well to save and to block Lowry's follow-up.

The visitors pulled a goal back on 84 minutes courtesy of a close range Gary Thompson finish.

However, Coleraine restored their three-goal advantage a minute into stoppage time when Allen finally got on the scoresheet after Gillan had played him clear to round Nelson.
