A Cathal Beacom goal eight minutes from the end earned Ballinamallard United all three points from Dungannon's visit to Ferney Park.

The Swifts almost raced into the lead after barely a couple of minutes had elapsed when Matt Hazley connected with a free-kick to turn the ball against the crossbar.

Then, around a quarter-of-an-hour later Ryan Harpur saw a free-kick turned away by 'keeper Stefan McCusker while Andrew Mitchell later headed wide at the back post from a Jamie Glackin cross.

For the Mallards David Kee saw a snapshot go over on 18 minutes while Lafferty tested Andy Coleman ten minutes after that.

The Mallards might have opened the scoring early in the second half when Lafferty found himself well placed only to head straight at Coleman.

Liam Martin then delivered two efforts wide of the target either side of the hour as Whitey Anderson's side looked the more liely to break the deadlock.

And they found the goal the game so desperately needed eight minutes from time through substitute Beacom with a 25-yard left-foot free-kick into the top corner.
