BLUES CROWNED CHAMPIONS BUT SHIP FOUR GOALS TO GLENAVON

Glenavon swept to a four-goal victory over champions Linfield at Windsor Park on the day the Blues were presented with the Gibson Cup for a record 53rd time.

Former Linfield man Robert Garrett kicked the scoring off for Glenavon after seven minutes with a superbly struck 25-yard effort which sailed into the top left corner.

Glenavon doubled their advantage six minutes from half-time through Conor McCloskey when he gave Gareth Deane no chance with a rifled left-foot drive from the edge of the area.

And there was almost a third soon after when Josh Daniels curled the ball against the crossbar with Stephen Murray's follow up saved by on the line by Deane.

The visitors did grab their third goal just after the hour with an Eoin Wearen shot from the right side at a tight angle.

Then, on 76 minutes, Rhys Marshall remarkably knocked home a fourth goal for Gary Hamilton's side with a close range back post header from Andrew Mitchell's corner.
