Burrows celebrates his now world renowned winner against Portadown

MATTY Burrows' much lauded match winner against Portadown on October 5th received further praise at the weekend with the news that it has been named 'Goal of the Year' by the world's most popular football site.

Announcing their decision on Sunday, ESPN Soccernet described the goal as 'a breathtaking piece of improvisation' that was 'as important as it was incredible'.

The 25-year-old Glentoran striker beat off goals from Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Lionel Messi to earn the plaudits of a website that attracts in excess of 100 million page views per month.

Burrows, of course, is already nominated for FIFA's prestigious Ferenc Puskas Award for Goal of 2010.

He will learn the outcome of the public vote at a gala ceremony early next month.
