BUSINESS AS USUAL AS GORMLEY AND BOYCE FIRE REDS TO VICTORY

CHAMPIONS Cliftonville kicked off their defence of the Gibson Cup with all three points from this visit of newly promoted Ards to Solitude.

Joe Gormley opened the scoring after just ten minutes with a volley from six yards out after Chris Curran had delivered the ball into the area.

Then, 11 minutes later, Gormley doubled his tally from around 18 yards with a clinical finish after spotting an opening in the Ards defence.

Ben Roy pulled a goal back for last season's Championship 1 winners on 53 minutes with a well executed drive into the top corner.

But the Reds restored their two-goal cushion ten minutes through Liam Boyce after some slack defending left him unmarked on the edge of the area.

And he made it 4-1 eight minutes after that with a great solo effort which saw take the ball past a number of defenders and 'keeper Graeme McKibbin to walk the ball into the net.

Paul McDowell grabbed a second for Ards with 13 minutes remaining.
