Carrick Rangers retained their Danske Bank Premiership status thanks to a 4-1 defeat of Institute at the Belfast Loughshore Hotel Arena, giving them a 5-2 aggregate victory over both legs.

Kyle McVey fired Carrick into the lead after 11 minutes with a left-foot finish but, within a minute, Sammy Morrow levelled for 'Stute at the near post after connecting with a Michael McCrudden cross.

But McCrudden was unfortunate a quarter-of-an-hour later after a Steven McCullough effort deflected off him to wrong foot 'keeper Martin Gallagher and restore Carrick's advantage.

That was how it stayed until midway through the second half when Declan O'Brien extended the home advantage with a low curling effort beyond Gallagher's reach at the far post.

And O'Brien completed the scoring not long after that from the spot after he had brought down by Mark Scoltock - who picked up a second booking for the challenge - inside the area.
