CHAMPAGNE ON ICE AT WINDSOR PARK

LINFIELD effectively clinched their historic 50th league title at the weekend with victory over Cliftonville at Windsor Park ..... but there will be no celebrations around the international stadium until the destination of the Gibson Cup is mathematically certain.

With two games remaining the Blues are six points ahead of their only challengers Crusaders but with a vastly superior goal difference it would take a collapse and swing of monumental proportions for David Jeffrey's side to be overhauled.

At the foot of the table a similar situation exists between basement club Newry City and 11th placed Donegal Celtic. Newry, following their defeat at Ballymena, are six points adrift of safety and although they enjoy a better goal difference than Paddy Kelly's charges they know they have to defeat both Glenavon and Coleraine and hope that DC pick up nothing from their final two outings.
