Newly appointed Cliftonville manager Tommy Breslin (Picture: Mark Pearce/

CLIFTONVILLE have confirmed the appointment of Tommy Breslin as their new manager.

Breslin did fulfil the role in a caretaker capacity after the club parted company with Eddie Patterson at the beginning of April but has now been handed the job on a permanent basis.

Chairman Gerard Lawlor confirmed the club had undergone an extensive selection process before confirming Breslin, who had been at the club for six years in a coaching capacity, as their man.

"His appointment comes at the end of a long process which the Club's Management Committee have been very careful to take our time over so that we might properly consider all of the applications which were made for the post," said Lawlor.

"We explored many avenues ..... but found that, despite appealing prospects from elsewhere, we continued coming to the same outcome - which was that Tommy Breslin is the man for the job."

Breslin expressed his delight at the appointment and looked forward to the challenges ahead.

"It's an exciting prospect for me and I can't wait to get started.

"I'm proud to be the Manager here. I was proud to play for the Reds, proud to act as Assistant Manager and I'm delighted to have been promoted to the main managerial role."

He will be assisted by Kyle Spiers and Peter Murray.
