BALLYMENA United staged a late comeback to earn a share of the spoils from this visit to Windsor Park.

Matt Tipton opened the scoring for Linfield after 21 minutes at the second attempt after Jamie Mulgrew took the ball past a defender to create the opening.

The Blues might have doubled their lead with two chances within the space of a minute.

Philip Lowry and Mark McAllister teamed up on 35 minutes for Lowry to finish with a shot which was deflected onto an upright and as Ballymena attempted to clear the ball came back into the area for Billy Joe Burns to fire against the other post from around 20 yards.

Ballymena almost levelled seven minutes from the break only for Blues 'keeper Ross Glendinning to pull off a double save to deny Ally Teggart.

However, Linfield extended their advantage on 61 minutes through Brian McCaul after he connected with a Lowry ball from the right to flick a shot past Dwayne Nelson.

But Ballymena pulled a goal back 12 minutes later when David Cushley collected the ball on the edge of the area before finishing with his right-foot in off the post.

Then, with six minutes left, Cushley struck again after intercepting a poor Robert Garrett backpass to run through and beat Glendinning for a second time.

And the visitors almost snatched the points right at the end when substitute Alan Davidson found himself one-on-one with Glendinning only for the 'keeper to produce a brilliant save.
